The staff and residents of Weavers House care home in Cookstown came together on the 17th of November for a two-hour Sponsored Cycle event held in the entrance area of their nursing floor. The initiative, organised by the home's Wellbeing Assistant, Grace, aimed to raise funds for Children in Need while encouraging cross-community relationships and spreading joy.
The event saw participation from everyone, with care staff, domestics, admin, and management taking turns on the cycle. Residents from various floors joined in, totaling 15 participants in the cycling extravaganza.
The collective efforts resulted in an impressive £435 raised for Children in Need, showcasing the community spirit and dedication of everyone involved. The funds will be directly donated to Children in Need to support their crucial work in aiding children in need across the country.
Commenting on the successful event, Jenny O’Connor, Kitchen Assistant, expressed her appreciation for the teamwork. She said: "Amazing. Well done to you all. I’m lucky to work with this team." The sentiment was echoed by Leona Lawless, a Facebook follower, who commended the effort, stating, "Fabulous amount raised! Well done to you all."
Even past relatives of residents joined in to commend the initiative, with Raymond, a Facebook follower and a past relative of a resident, sharing his thoughts, "Well done team… there's nowhere like it."
The sponsored cycle not only contributed to a significant charitable cause but also served as a testament to the strong sense of community within Weavers House. The lively atmosphere and camaraderie made the event not just a fundraiser but an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
