Name: Rachel Morrey
Job Title: Nursing Manager, Rose Court
Why did you want to work in care?
Caring for people at this stage of their lives is a real privilege. We get to know and care for our residents so well, it’s almost like they are part of our own family! I have been working in care for a long time and I still love knowing I have made a difference to someone’s life every single day.
Many of our residents would have advanced dementia alongside other co-morbidities so it can be very challenging but being able to make a difference to their quality of life is so rewarding, and what it’s all about.
What makes Rose Court a special place to live and to work?
We have a small nursing unit with just 18 beds so it feels really homely and is very comfortable. Many of the staff, myself included, have worked here for along time so we are all really passionate about providing excellent care for our residents. We are a great team and care for each other as well.
It’s our job to provide our residents with the right care, and care of high standards. We really do look after our residents as if they were our own relatives which gives their loved ones real peace of mind that they are being well looked after.
For you, what is the definition of ‘good care’?
Good care means ensuring residents are safe, clean, comfortable and stimulated. It also means knowing what your residents like and don’t like, and even getting to know about their lives before coming into the home.
At Rose Court we have individual care plans for every residents and these are reviewed regularly to make sure that the right care is still being provided.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I’m a busy mum of two to a 6 year old and a 4 year old so they keep me very busy outside of work!
